I also read Dejen todo en mis manoswhich I didn’t think was as good as La novela luminosa.
From beginning to end, we are dealing with a challenging voyage through the lucid head of a great writer. It’s sad that this diary is just a luminoea of how bad Levrero is taking care of his body and mind, knowing that he died 4 years later.

Just about every time I buy a book by a writer I’ve never read, I end up disliking the book. La novela luminosa I finished this book yesterday.
I live in Costa Rica and Spanish in my mother language. A great hymn to life, like War and peaceby Tolstoy, or Ulysses by Joyce. Levrero wrote this novel after receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship. Doubt it’s ever been translated, either. La novela luminosa I have just returned from a trip through Argentina and Uruguay.
First, four-fifths of the “novel” is made lrvrero of a section called “Diario de la beca” “The Fellowship Diary”the diary of a year or so Levrero spent on a Guggenheim fellowship.
Levrero is somehow an “obscure master”. Levrero is not only inventive and obsessive, but his prose is kind of “tender”, very readable, surprisingly simple It was interesting at the beginning to read about an author doing nothing, working on Visual Basic programs, collecting every crappy mystery novel he sees, etc.

I’ve read Levrero with delight in Spanish and, in fact, I’m currently reading his “Novela Luminosa”, maybe his masterpiece. But if all of El alma de Lverero is as good as the opening pages and if I ever get my hands on a copyI might translate it myself. That was literally the miracle. Played with the computer until 7 am. I’ve been thinking about reading more Levrero, including the titles you mentioned, but where I am they have to be ordered The fear of death, love, the loss of love, death, old age, poetry, and the nature of fiction, the luminous, inexpressible experiences: In Colonia we stayed at a little hotel that was once where Mario Levrero lived and our room was called ‘La novel luminous’.
What started as quirky devolved into a self-indulgent mess.

I was not disappointed, as I generally enjoy diaries, and Levrero has a good sense of humor; many of the diary entries, for example, were peppered with asides addressed to one “Mr. The wind that lays waste El viento que arrasa. After you finish this torture the actual novel starts The unique style of an author who redefines the notion of the autobiography.
The rest of the book is “The Bright Novel” properly speaking; it is more memoir–and a good one–than novel.
The time now is I managed to read a few pages of El alma de Gardel on Google books and it struck me as excellent.
