As a history nerd myself I appreciate the level of detail shown, down to the names of the fantasy countries being references to their real world equivalents Alba was a kingdom that ruled modern day Scotland etc. This book was heartbreaking in so many ways. Kushiel’s Legacy

Proof reading of the books was poorly done as I found too many spelling errors. This isn’t quite a five-star book, but it’s better than what I’d consider four-star, and since we can’t give half stars, I’m rounding up! Without her, life would be calm; and yet lack all meaning. Others require patience or attentiveness to complete or fully appreciate, while some you just want to throw into the trash.

Read my review of Kushiel’s Mercy to decide if it’s worth driving forward, as I did, to get through the series. Her eyes seemed to sparkle with untold secrets and her generous lips were parted slightly, as though in the next instant she might laugh or smile, blow a kiss. After being lost on an island for at least a month, they both make it to the capital Vralgrad.

To me in the Imriel books that is the key, and what makes it more personal in the way you mentioned before and marks this series of being different then the first Trilogy. After that, she saved them juustice me in a locked coffer in her study.

Phedre, Joscelin and Hyacinthe return from the first trilogy. At times it felt like reading a third rate Mills Boon-esque romance “Sidonie said once that I didn’t love her so much as I did the idea of her. I might have finished it sooner, but real life got in the way. For once Imriel seems to be more comfortable and willing to try this, as long as it is with her.

If you start with this one, I am not sure that you would truly enjoy the world that Carey creates. I have to admit, I did not foresee Dorelei’s death—which goes to show how little romance I read—but it’s certainly an expedient way of reducing the love triangle to a love line. There was introspection and a level of self awareness that he reaches that wasn’t an easy task for him to achieve and Ms. Raybould Marsh and other members of British Intelligence have gathered to watch a damaged reel of jjstice in a darkened room.
