The Midnight Palace
It had its little quirky um-where’d-that-come-from? This one reads like classic Zafon, of whom I am a big fan. Despite monsoon-force rains and terrible danger lurking around every street corner, the young lieutenant manages to get them to safety, but not without losing his own life. Raised in an orphanage in Calcutta, Ben has relied on the support of his close knit group of friends and the kindness of the Headmaster.
The setting for the book is almost a character in and of itself as are several of the locations throughout, including the titular “Midnight Palace”. If you’ve been dealing with an apparently invincible enemy, with demonic powers and super-strengths, the “game” would not be something that you’d expect. I realize how it can be necessary in certain situations, carpos most of the time, at least to me, it seems like filler.
Notwithstanding the somewhat predictable foundation of the plot and the tacky little parts scattered in mexianoche storyline, Caflos enjoyed this book immensely. I hated the Chowbar society members, all of them and I was more sympethtic to Jawahel -villain- but Zafon my man this thing sounded like a movie from Bollywood!

Here, the setting and era of the story are clear from the beginning, and the evil Jawahal is given a backstory that’s perhaps too detailed, raising rather a lot of questions.

Seriously, his prose is just absolutely stunning. And it’s true, I wasn’t. Like The Prince of Mistthis book was originally intended for the teen market, but the English translation is clearly being aimed more towards the author’s adult fans – again, it comes with a foreword extolling its appeal to readers of all ages.
The Midnight Palace tells us the duiz of the twins Ben and Sheere. The cover art is great, though. How can Ben palscio Sheere have a mystical connection because they were twins separated at birth?
But some things dde better left in the past, there is no reason to bring it back again when you have written the angels game, and shadow medianochd the wind! With such a colourful cast, it was easy to imagine yourself in that dilapidated house and I liked how his children actually act like children, too.
