Mike Doogan’s “The Death of Clickclickwhistle” was okay and the only sci-fi mystery of the lot. I always end it chuckling. Nothing to ru I love fantasy novels and I love mysteries. The Witch with No Name. This is another collection of short oof from a variety of authors. I read this becaues it was recommended to read in the Sookie timeline, but I’m not sure I needed to in order to keep going with the story. Otherwise, it was a pretty standard Sookie story – Sookie gets asked by supernatural creature to read some human minds that are suspected of doing something terrible — Sookie reads minds and finds out the answer — supernatureal creatures promise to have a rather nasty form of revenge.

Scifi and fantasy based murder mysteries, too quick for a good mystery and more effort spent on rapid world-building than full plots. Making it even more interesting is that it is told with the bias of the bird rather than with human concerns. I’m a fan of Anne Bishop’s “The Others” series. I’ve never taken to the whole Nightside idea: So much so that I have already picked up the sequel: A Fantastic Holiday Season.

It fills in a bit of backstory regarding Claudine and her brother Claude, but I’m not certain if it was really necessary. Strange, didn’t really get the ending.

A rather weak anthology of short stories combining murder mystery and fantasy.

The best story was the first one, Cold Spell by Donna Andrews. Like most short story collections, there were stories that I really liked a lot and stories that I didn’t like at all as well as detectioon in between.

A few stories like that aside, it is a pretty decent, albeit predictable, set of short mysteries in mostly fantasy settings there is one sci-fi story. However, the place names were so strange and truely odd, and the first page didn’t make much sense that I nearly didn’t continue reading the story. Lovely is the story of a murder as told from the view of a crow or a raven.
