I am not a fan of secret keeping as a plot device, but at the beginning of the book I did not mind it; the secret was established before the relationship and therefore was acceptable. It took me 1 month to finish this book. Truthfully that’s why this story was a bit of a dud for me.
This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. I would have wished for more anger on Arabella’s part. While trying to expose a traitorous jewel ring, can he also save her from the someone that’s trying to kill the two of them as well?
She knew she should speak, say something cutting.
Again — he didn’t see fit to let Arabella know MEN! Hawkins’ style does not speak to me.
Where have we heard that before? There’s not much action but the spark and heat between the leading couple was fierce. Lucien and Arabella have a past though, so that makes it easy to understand why she doesn’t go so easily into Lucien’s arms.

It felt too much like pages of Arabella making excuses not to trust Lucien for his past transgressions, without ever hearing his end of the story. Cute story of a duke who returns, by accident to the woman he loved and ruined ten years earlier. Arabella Hadley and Lucien Devereaux fell in love ten years ago, but Lucien stole her virtue and left her without explanation.
Especially since Arabella clearly has secrets of her own. Lucien and Arabella have a past though, so that makes it easy to understand wh I read a review of one of Karen’s latest books from Addicted To Romance so I went to the library and found this one, to see how well she stacked up to her most recent book.

Especially since Arabella clearly has secrets of her own. But the words she had imagined herself saying for so long fled, and all she could do was stare at him; at his incredible eyes, the smooth golden line of his face, the sensual shape of his mouth. There’s a part where the Arabella and the Lucien have sex and her aunt bursts into the room. At times, the other plot threads got in the way. A sweet romance blossomed between the future duke and Bella who, despite being the daughter of a gentleman, is not a member of the aristocracy.
It is easy to see early on that he loves Arabella, though lord knows she can’t. The rest of the cast were just terrible. However, as the story moved on the secret changed, and that was what I did not like. And while there are lots of laughs to be had here, some serious aspects of the love relationship were sacrificed for subplots about other characters. Aug 06, Tiffany Day rated it it was ok. I am not sure why, but the story just dragged on for me. Lucien and Arabella are perfect for each other and their situations are hilarious.
This wouldn’t be the reaction of a woman who had been ruined and left for 10 years.
As painful as it was, I lived through it. Lucien leaves abruptly without word q Bella. The characters are really interesting and you can’t help but love them, especially Lucien.
I immediately started to reread the book and, oh my goodness, it was a most sublime reading experience.
